Improving quality of life through art & leisure
The National Gallery Singapore is a visual arts institution located in the heart of Singapore’s Civic District, occupying the restored former Supreme Court and City Hall buildings. A sweeping rooftop canopy, carried by branching columns, visually unites the structures. The new canopy softens daylight across the upper levels, while a shared basement concourse now serves as the main entrance.
The integrity of historic structures was preserved while integrating modern design and functionality. These incudes the façades, grand staircases, the City Hall Surrender Chamber, and the Supreme Court’s main courtroom. Original entry points remain, with additional openings added to improve accessibility. In 2015, the National Gallery Singapore was awarded the President*s Design Award (P*DA), for Design of the Year.
